BBC World News Live interview on driverless cars
Alexander Duisberg our Munich based Tech & Automotive partner was recently interviewed by BBC World News Live to talk through the legal issues and concerns surrounding autonomous cars.
Germany is currently one of the countries in the process of drafting new traffic laws to include driverless cars. Alexander was asked by the BBC to address some of the complexities associated with designing a legal and insurance system for these vehicles. He highlighted the importance of an environment where there is "reliability, predictability and coverage of liability", and an insurance industry which needs to cover both the drivers as well as the car manufacturers ensuring a balance between them. Germany aims to have autonomous vehicles in series production by 2021 and so there is great interest from both car manufacturers and law makers to ensure that a legal framework is put in place.
