February has been a busy month in terms of UK enforcement, developments relating to the new Regulation & Directive and mobile apps. Highlights include:

  • on enforcement, new monetary penalties have been imposed for loss or incorrect delivery of highly sensitive personal data and four individuals have been sentenced to custodial sentences under the Fraud Act for illegally trading in confidential data;
  • on the new Regulation & Directive, the ICO has published a paper welcoming the new instruments, but making a series of constructive suggestions for improvement; and
  • a new code of privacy guidelines for mobile apps has been unveiled by industry association, the GSMA.
