On January 10, the European Commission published the proposed text for the new e-Privacy Regulation ('the Regulation'). This new Regulation, if adopted, will replace the current e-Privacy Directive and will establish, together with the GDPR, a new privacy legal framework for electronic communications.
On 11 January 2017, the Federal Council of Switzerland announced that it had reached an agreement with the United States to replace the U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework for transferring personal data from Switzerland to the U.S.
On 12th December 2016, the text of the replacement for the e-Privacy Directive was leaked. The draft suggests a significant toughening of the online and direct marketing landscape and, predictably, a convergence with the provisions in the General Data Protection Regulation.
