Lynne Lewis

I am a partner in our Intellectual Property Group in Sydney. Intellectual property, and related consumer and regulatory law, is my area of specialty.

I work on all aspects of the creation, commercialisation, management, protection and enforcement of IP rights. I really enjoy being involved in cutting edge IP matters before the courts, in complex multi-jurisdiction litigation. I have represented clients in major litigated cases in Australian courts over the course of my career, including in relation to patents, trademarks, copyright, designs and confidential information and in actions relating to allegations of false advertising.

Another distinctive element of my practice relates to retail and consumer law, dealing with the application of the Australian Consumer Law and the complexities of franchise law. The interplay of commercial, consumer and legal issues in this dynamic sector is constantly evolving, so it's an exciting area of work. No two days are ever the same, so I am constantly working on a variety of different issues.

A significant focus of my work is with clients in the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors. In addition to acting on their IP matters, I provide regulatory advice in relation to the full range of TGA and PBS issues, including acting in administrative law challenges in the Courts and advising on product recalls. Clients also regularly look to me for assistance in drafting clinical trial, distribution and manufacturing agreements.

My clients come from a diverse array of sectors, including automotive, aviation, fashion, food and beverages, financial services, mining, telecommunications and life sciences. I find it really rewarding to work closely with a client, regardless of their sector, to deeply understand their particular commercial and legal issues, and then to help them to find the best possible solution. It is always refreshing to have new perspectives and to view challenges through different prisms. I certainly bring these creative problem solving skills to my work as a partner here at Bird & Bird.
