I'm an associate in the Finance & Financial Regulation Group, specialising in financial services regulation.
I advise financial institutions such as payment service providers, electronic money institutions, credit institutions, fund managers and investment firms. I also advise non-financial institutions on their services and activities which may involve the financial regulatory perimeter.
I have specific expertise in the cross-border provision of financial services, Brexit, the Senior Managers Regime, derivatives and securities regulation, and sanctions.
Prior to joining Bird & Bird, I was in-house counsel in the London Branch of a major global financial institution, where I focused on wholesale financial services regulation. I advised on major regulatory change projects and was also involved on several contentious regulatory matters relating to sanctions, fraud, and regulatory reporting.
I am particularly interested in innovative uses of technology such as blockchain and open banking, and their potential to improve the quality of services in financial services, a sector that sometimes has a reputation for being a bit traditional. Having experienced the pressures of being in-house, I understand the need for practical, actionable regulatory advice, and the tensions experienced by clients who must weigh regulatory considerations with internal expectations and commercial pressures.
