Tom is a specialist commercial IP lawyer, with a focus on the protection and exploitation of brands.
Tom is a partner in our Intellectual Property practice, based in London.
His practice is predominantly centred around non-contentious, commercial IP work, with a particular focus on brands. Tom has recently completed a secondment at Everything Everywhere Limited, who operate the T Mobile and Orange businesses and brands in the UK. He advised both brands in relation to marketing and advertising law, as well as general commercial, consumer and intellectual property matters. In 2012 he advised Everything Everywhere on its rebrand strategy to EE and its high profile launch across multiple platforms. Tom has also advised a global maritime conglomerate on the commercialisation of a prestigious legacy brand. Most recently, Tom has been advising a high profile sports delivery authority on the protection and exploitation of certain brand assets.
Tom also has experience of advising in respect of complex, high-value commercial IP contracts relating to the commercialisation of intellectual property rights, such as agreements relating to the licensing and transfer of intellectual property. He has considerable experience of advising on intellectual property matters in the context of corporate and investment transactions, including international M&A, public offerings, and joint ventures as well as intellectual property audits and structural reorganisations across a broad range of technology focused sectors.
Tom has a scientific background with a first class MSc degree in chemistry from Durham University. He qualified in 2005 into the Intellectual Property department of a Magic Circle firm, joining us in 2006. He also gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law in 2006.
