Thomas is an associate in the IP, Tech & Comms and Competition & EU departments, based in our Brussels office.
Thomas is a commercial lawyer who combines significant experience in the drafting of complex TMT contracts with an in-depth understanding of the EU regulatory environment surrounding the data economy (data protection, open data, copyright, telecommunications, data localisation and retention law).
He has advised clients on various legal issues surrounding technology related-matters such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things and electric vehicles.
Thomas has relevant expertise in EU trade law, where he has advised clients on trade defence and customs issues, has been involved in litigation before the EU courts, and has engaged in outreach efforts towards other EU institutions and national governments.
Having started his legal career in the administrative law practice group at a leading Benelux firm, Thomas has acquired experience in Belgian civil and administrative procedure as well as Belgian public law, including public procurement law.
Thomas studied law at the universities of Leuven (KU Leuven), Paris (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Tilburg. In 2012, he obtained a postgraduate degree in Global Politics at the London School of Economics. In 2019, he will defend his doctoral dissertation in the field of EU external relations law at KU Leuven.
He has written a wide range of articles in the areas of EU external relations law, EU procedural law and IT law.
Thomas has been a member of the Brussels bar since 2012.
Thomas is fluent in Dutch, French and English.
