Stephan is a Counsel in our Competition & EU Law Practice Group based in Düsseldorf and an active member of the firm’s Automotive Sector Group as well as its Compliance Task Force.
He has over 9 years' professional experience in advising national and multinational organisations on all aspects of German & EU competition law, including EU and multi-jurisdictional merger control proceedings, cartel and abuse investigations and compliance policies and programmes.
Having been involved in some of the most prominent court cases in Germany, he is also known for his strong expertise in litigating standard essential patents (SEPs), cartel damages claims and online distribution cases before the competent German and EU courts and authorities.
Before returning to us in spring 2016, Stephan held a position as Compliance Officer at thyssenkrupp AG where he was able to gain considerable insight and expertise regarding the development and implementation of state of the art compliance programmes within organisations.
Industry sectors in which Stephan has particular experience include automotive, technology, media & telecommunications (TMT), branded goods and sport.
In addition to his German law degree, Stephan holds a first diploma in economics from the University of Bayreuth and a Ph.D. degree in law from the University of Münster. Stephan publishes regularly and is a member of ”Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht”, the German Competition Lawyers Association.
