Sebastian is highly experienced in national and international disputes concerning colour and other non-traditional trademarks.
Sebastian is a Counsel in our our Trade Marks and Designs Practice Group, based in Düsseldorf.
As an experienced and dedicated brand lawyer, Sebastian deals with all aspects of non-technical German and European intellectual property law, copyright law, unfair competition and licensing. His work focuses on trade mark, design and unfair competition advice and litigation. He represents national and international brand owners in a multitude of disputes concerning non-traditional trademarks, including high profile litigation on colour per se trademarks.
As Vice Chair of its Designs Team, Sebastian is an active member of MARQUES. He also is a member of the German Association for Commercial Property Rights and Copyright Law (GRUR) and of the German-Irish Lawyers’ Association.
Sebastian is a regular speaker at seminars on trademarks and designs. He also publishes articles on the consequences of bad faith warning letters in unfair competition and copyright law, comment on BGH judgment of 31.05.2012, I ZR 106/10 – Ferienluxuswohnung, K&R 2013, 194-196 and Non-distinctive use of trade marks – Rights of the proprietor, GRUR 2004, 185-191). Sebastian wrote the chapters on design law in Handbuch Markenrecht und Designschutz (in German), Stöckel(editor), for both the 2nd edition in 2006 and the 3rd edition in 2013.
Sebastian joined our Düsseldorf office in 2002. He completed his studies with a focus on intellectual property and European competition law at Trinity College, Dublin (LL.M.).
Sebastian is a board member of two charitable organisations, Förderung Krebsforschung NRW e.V. and KrebsStiftung NRW.
