As an associate in Bird & Bird's International HR Services Group, I offer clients a one stop shop for strategic employment issues, both in the UK and internationally.

In addition to expertise across the employment spectrum, I have particular experience advising on and co-ordinating employee data protection projects, helping HR teams successfully navigate the now blurred boundaries between employment and data protection law.

I provide clients with advice which is clear, tailored to strategic goals and capable of immediate implementation. My practice covers the entire employment life-cycle and varies across multiple sectors, with a particular focus on organisations which are built around new and exciting technologies.

I work on both contentious and non-contentious matters. In the UK, I have recently advised on prospective and current litigation before the Employment Tribunal, High Court and Court of Appeal and have experience with alternative dispute resolution, including the successful mediation of employment disputes.

Utilising our extensive network of international lawyers, I also co-ordinate significant international projects to provide seamless advice on cutting-edge topics, from the preparation and execution of large restructuring programmes to advice on the cross-border implementation of employee background checking processes.

Having spent time working within Bird & Bird's dedicated Privacy & Data Protection team, I'm well placed to advise on employee data processing issues and the GDPR's impact on HR operations. I have devised and delivered bespoke sessions and seminars on a broad range of topics, including those within the privacy spectrum; from comprehensive GDPR audits to targeted DSAR action plans.

On a day-to-day basis, my work ranges from providing input on basic employment documentation to managing employee competition disputes, answering queries regarding the protection of business secrets, advising on issues regarding discrimination/harassment, drafting TUPE schedules and reviewing immigration applications.

I also have significant in-house experience and always seek to use this to ensure my advice is digestible and capable of immediate use within client organisations. In recent years, I have completed secondments to a national sports governing body and one of the world's largest financial institutions.

  • Undertaking detailed employment status audits for governing bodies and organisations operating across the sports sector, from mixed martial arts to golf.
  • Developing a suite of detailed post-termination restrictions (including non-compete clauses) to apply to the workforce of a leading global media company and driving proceedings to enforce restrictive covenants before the High Court.
  • Managing large restructuring and redundancy programmes (including the required collective consulation processes) across all sectors, both within the UK and internationally.
  • Co-ordinating the employment workstream, including Due Diligence and Acquired Rights Directive (TUPE) requirements, of a multi-million pound corporate acquisition across the Nordics for one of the world's largest technology companies.
  • Devising and implementing HR GDPR compliance audits/action plans for household names in the technology sector, as well as providing ad hoc advice on a wide variety of employee privacy matters, such as background checks and the exercise of data subject rights.
