Oliver advises his clients on all issues of Data Protection and IT law and specialises particularly in the GDPR implementation.
Oliver is an associate in our Privacy & Data Protection and Tech & Comms groups, based in Düsseldorf.
He advises national and international clients in the areas of data protection and IT law. Oliver has a particular focus on employee and (inter-) company privacy matters, international data transfers, the implementation of the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation, and on new business models such as big data, IoT, AI and cloud computing. Oliver’s practice also includes IT contract law, ecommerce and all legal issues in connection with internet-based business models.
Moreover, he advises clients on regulatory requirements relating to blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
Oliver graduated from the University of Leipzig with a focus on media and information law. He undertook his legal clerkship in Berlin (including a stage at the Data Protection Authority of Berlin) and successfully completed a postgraduate Master of Laws (LL.M.) programme in Melbourne, Australia. Before joining us in 2018, Oliver Schmidt worked as data protection officer as well as a lawyer in an international law firm in Berlin and Cologne. Oliver supports clients in German and English and is a member of the German Federal Blockchain Association (‘Bundesverband Blockchain’).
