Niels is a strategic adviser and litigator for clients in the life sciences and media and communications industries, tackling issues at the crossroads of commercial, regulatory and IP.
Niels is a partner in our International Commercial Group, based in Frankfurt. His practice focuses on clients in the life sciences sector and in the media and communcations industries. Niels advises on unfair competition, copyright and media law, and covers regulatory issues relevant to the highly-regulated life science and media industries, including under EU and constitutional law.
Niels has particular expertise in the dense regulatory framework governing the Life Science and Media industries. He assists clients with the roll-out of new products and media offerings, related communication, reputation management, claims and advertising, and litigates such cases in civil and administrative courts.
In the life sciences sector, Niels is advising and representing a tobacco manufacturer on advertising and regulatory issues and cannabis manufacturers on regulatory issues of medicinal cannabis and non-medicinal uses. On the media side, he acts for music businesses and collecting societies, online games publishers and TV stations on copyright, and represents gambling clients in regulatory disputes.
Niels holds a Ph.D. summa cum laude from the Ruhr University of Bochum, Faculty of Law, an LL.M. from Columbia Law School, New York and an M.A. in Journalism (Diplom) from the University of Dortmund. He was called to the Bar in 2006.
He is a lecturer on Intellectual Property and Digital Media at the University of Regensburg and teaches bar exam classes on IP and unfair competition at the State Government of Bavaria. He is a member of the GRUR, the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, and the Licensing Executives Society (LES).
Niels is fluent in English, French and Italian.
