Niels is a strategic adviser and litigator for clients in the consumer products and media and communications industries, tackling issues at the crossroads of commercial, regulatory and IP.
Niels is a partner in our International Commercial Group, based in Frankfurt.
He advises clients from the media and communication industries as well as in the consumer products sector and focuses on unfair competition, copyright and media law as well as regulatory issues relevant to those industries, including in particular under EU and constitutional law.
Niels has particular expertise in the dense regulatory framework governing the Retail & Consumer, Media and Tech & Comms industries. Niels advises them in relation to the launch of new products, advertising, distribution, as well as claims, and litigates such cases in civil and administrative courts.
In the Tech & Comms and Media sectors, he has advised a number of tech and media companies on selective distribution, including antitrust compliance, and the largest German collecting society on copyright issues.
Niels holds a Ph.D. summa cum laude from the Ruhr University of Bochum, Faculty of Law, an LL.M. from Columbia Law School, New York and an M.A. in Journalism (Diplom) from the University of Dortmund. He was called to the Bar in 2006.
He is a lecturer on Intellectual Property and Digital Media at the Universities of Regensburg and Passau and teaches bar exam classes on IP and unfair competition at the State Government of Bavaria. He is a member of the GRUR, the German Association for Commercial Property Rights and Copyright Law and the LES, Licensing Executives Society.
Niels is fluent in English, French, Italian and Spanish.
