Martin uses his broad expertise in the field of intellectual property to develop innovative legal solutions for his clients.
Martin is of counsel in our Intellectual Property Practice. He is based in The Hague.
Martin advises on copyright, database and trademark protection and policy. He focuses on the impact of intellectual property rights on the development of new business models and information products in the digital environment, the liability of online platforms for infringements of intellectual property rights and the strategic use of intellectual property portfolios. He is also a member of our Media Group.
Martin joined us in October 2008. He was admitted to the bar in Germany and in the Netherlands in 2009. Martin combines his work with academic activities at the VU University Amsterdam, where he is Chair of Intellectual Property and Director of the Kooijmans Institute for Law and Governance.
As a member of the State Copyright Commission, Martin advises the Dutch government on copyright-related questions. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI), the board of the Dutch Copyright Association (VvA), and the Dutch group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
Martin is a member of the editorial board of the Dutch copyright journal auteurs-, media- en informatierecht (AMI) and the industrial property journal Berichten Industriële Eigendom (BIE). His publications in Dutch, English, French and German cover various procedural and substantive aspects of intellectual property law. Martin is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.
