Michelle has an excellent reputation as a leading energy and utilities lawyer.
Michelle heads our Energy & Utilities Group in the Netherlands. She is also a partner in our Regulatory Group and is based in The Hague.
She has spent almost 20 years working in the field of energy, developing expertise and practical experience covering the whole chain of energy law (exploration, production, trading, transmission, distribution and supply of energy) and lobbying. She recently completed a post graduate course on Public Affairs at Leiden University and uses her knowledge of the political and regulatory worlds to expertly navigate her clients through the complexities of this field. Clients particularly look to her for guidance on (politically) sensitive matters and projects which require creative and innovative solutions.
Michelle is also a well-regarded litigator who represents clients in administrative law proceedings regarding decisions of regulatory authorities and civil law actions in energy related matters. Additionally, she advises (global) companies, investors and local governments on a wide variety of matters including renewable energy projects (biogas, offshore and onshore wind, heating, solar), energy efficiency, waste and environmental regulation, tariff regulation, subsidies, infrastructure and compliance. Her clients include energy producers and suppliers, grid operators and energy intensive industries.
Michelle was admitted to the bar in 1992 and joined us in 2007. She has written and spoken widely on energy and utilities issues. Michelle is editor in chief of the Dutch Journal on Energy Law and serves on the Board of the Dutch Energy Law Association.
She is consistently recognized as a leading energy and regulatory lawyer in the legal directories.
