Michael spent six years at BAE Systems where he headed up their in-house Dispute Resolution team.
Michael is a Legal Director in our Dispute Resolution team with a particular focus on the Aerospace, Defence and Security sector, and is based in London.
Prior to joining us, Michael spent six years at BAE Systems where he headed up their in-house Dispute Resolution team managing disputes in the maritime (surface and submarine), land (including munitions and weapons systems), air (military and civil) and technology (including cyber-security) divisions. This gave him valuable experience of managing high-value disputes, often involving technical or politically-sensitive issues, in the defence sector. Moreover, it provided the opportunity to understand how disputes are managed at senior and commercial levels within a large organisation, and how commercial factors can strongly influence strategic decisions in a dispute.
He has advised on litigation in the High Court (including Judicial Review proceedings and claims in the Technology and Construction Court) and also at the Court of Appeal, as well as arbitration pursuant to ICC, LCIA and Danish Arbitration Rules. Michael's work has also involved him in High Court proceedings to enforce arbitration awards, and advising on the effect of sanctions in relation disputes concerning historic export contracts. Michael also regularly advises on jurisdiction, governing law and arbitration clauses in contracts.
