Mauro has built a strong reputation as an expert in the Life Sciences fields for both his Regulatory and Intellectual Property expertise.
Mauro is counsel based in our Milan and Rome offices.
He is a member of the International Life Sciences and Intellectual Property Groups.
He has more than 15 years' experience advising clients on life sciences (medicinal products, medical devices, food supplements, cosmetics, plant protection products etc.) mainly in relation to regulatory and intellectual property issues such as: classifications issues, R&D and clinical trials issues, authorisation/registration/certification procedure, RDP issues, market access including early access programmes and price & reimbursement issues, pharmacovigilance/materiovigilance, compliance (including advertising and interaction with HCPs, HCO, Patient and Scientific associations), relevant commercial agreements.
Before joining us in 2008, Mauro spent several years working for several medicines authorities: the Italian Ministry of Health and then the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) as well as the European Medicines Agency (EMA). In particular, during his time at the EMA, Mauro was responsible for all legal matters relating to intellectual property protection and innovation development. He provided legal support to the Paediatric Committee (PDCO) and the Name Review Group (NRG) and also contributed to the Advanced Therapy Regulation implementation. Whilst there, Mauro was responsible for providing a full range of pharmaceuticals advice, including generics and data exclusivity issues, biosimilars, parallel import and parallel distribution issues, orphan drugs, SMEs and transparency issues.
Mauro was also a member of the EMA Innovation Task Force (ITF), which is the team specialised in product classification and borderline issues.
After studying law at Bologna University, he completed his legal training and qualified in 2005. He has also completed, with merit, an intensive Course in IP Law in 2006.
He regularly speaks and writes on life sciences and intellectual property law matters.
Mauro’s mother tongue is Italian, but he is also fluent in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Since 2015 Mauro has been listed by Who’s Who Legal amongst the Italian Life Sciences regulatory experts.
In 2018, following nominations from clients, Mauro was awarded the ILO Client Choice Award for "Best Healthcare & Life Sciences lawyer – Italy".
