Matt is a disputes lawyer with a focus on outsourcing, technology implementation and agency/licensing disputes.
Matt is a Senior Associate in our International Dispute Resolution Group, based in London.
Matt's practice focuses on large-scale, multi-provider outsourcing and technology implementation disputes, including project rescues, termination and new supplier transition. This includes recent instructions on supplier transition disputes in the hospitality and wellness industry relating to franchising agreements, licensing models and commercial agency relationships. Matt has particular expertise in acting for both agents and principals in commercial agency termination and compensation/exit disputes. Many of these instructions have an international element, and Matt has advised clients on franchising and agency disputes in several EU Member States and in the UAE.
He is qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate in the English courts, and regularly represents clients (as sole advocate) in interim hearings, including for summary judgment and strike-out applications. In addition to his advocacy, Matt has extensive experience in all aspects of proceedings before the English courts, including in both the Court of Appeal and in the UK Supreme Court.
Matt's recent work includes working acting for Property Alliance Group in its litigation against Royal Bank of Scotland, leading to the first "test case" on alleged LIBOR manipulation to come before the Court of Appeal; working as part of the Bird & Bird team on the KFC supply chain issues in early 2018; and an international fashion distributor on exit from its commercial agency relationships in several European jurisdictions.
