Kuppan specialises in commercial litigation and arbitration involving contentious and non-contentious work since 1991. His practice includes corporate and contractual disputes, competition law, contentious advisory work, insolvency work and disputes involving construction and building contracts. He also specialises in front-end building contract work, including preparation and review of building and infrastructure contracts.
He has appeared and represented clients on various matters before a variety of tribunals, including in proceedings before the Court of Appeal, the High Court of Singapore and the State Courts, as well as before arbitration tribunals. His practice includes arbitration and he has attended and worked on both local and international arbitrations. He has also presented papers at seminars and conferences on construction law and commercial litigation topics, both in Singapore and abroad. He was also a part-time tutor at the Postgraduate Practice Law Course and continues to work with the course organisers in reviewing and editing course material. Kuppan has substantial experience in working with foreign counsels, including Queen's Counsel and other specialist professionals.
Kuppan graduated from the University of Hull, England, in 1988 and was called to the English Bar and admitted as a Barrister-at-Law, of the Middle Temple, England, in 1989. He is an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore since 1991 and is both a Notary Public and a Commissioner for Oaths.
