A specialist environmental lawyer, Jo advises UK and international clients on several commercially vital areas. She often provides regulatory and risk management advice, particularly in the areas of climate change, renewables, energy efficiency and other low carbon policy initiatives, for example ESOS, CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme and climate change agreements. Her expertise in this area was strengthened through a secondment at Defra, where Jo worked on the implementation of the first phase of the EU Emissions Trading System.
Jo also advises on producer compliance and liability, working closely with a multi-practice team to support manufacturers, importers, distributors and customers with a cradle-to-grave service to ensure product compliance with regulatory requirements and protection from consequences of non-compliance. Her experience in this area includes regulatory expertise on RoHS, WEEE and batteries legislation as well as other, product-specific legislation.
In addition, Jo provides advice on and negotiation of contractual allocation of liability for contaminated land and other environmental and climate change liabilities, for corporate, real estate and energy clients.
Finally, Jo enjoys delivering tailored internal and external training on different aspects of environmental and climate change law and policy. She also advises on risk and legislation registers on environmental and climate change law and policy for clients concerned about the impact of such measures on their business, for example, energy efficiency and emissions reduction legislation (key to large energy consumers such as data centres).
Jo has written many client newsletters and briefings, including on the implementation of ESOS, heating and cooling networks, the implications of Brexit on the environment and recent changes in energy efficiency legislation.
She is also actively involved with several professional organisations, such as the UK Environmental Lawyers' Association's Climate Change Working Party, the Environmental Industries Commission and a PLC Environment Lawyers' roundtable forum.
