Jan provides counsel on technical property rights, particularly in the technical fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and medical products.
Jan is an associate and a member of our Intellectual Property team, based in Munich. He is admitted to practice as a German Patent Attorney and European Patent, Trademark and Design Attorney.
Jan completed his training in the Munich office of an established Patent Attorney firm and stayed there for a few more years before joining us.
Jan advises and represents clients in the field of technical property rights, in particular in inter partes proceedings at the German Patent and Trademark Office, the European Patent Office and the German courts responsible for patent infringement and nullity proceedings.
His focus is on the technical fields of biotechnology, medical products and pharmaceuticals, including the areas of personalised medicine, biopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical formulations, immunotherapy, in vitro diagnostics and crop protection.
Jan studied biochemistry at the University of Leipzig and the University of Glasgow and interned at an agrochemical company and at the Dartmouth College Medical School (USA). His PhD thesis at the MRC Centre for Protein Engineering of the University of Cambridge was about the biophysical characterisation of the interaction between p53 and S100 proteins.
After obtaining his PhD, Jan worked as scientist for a pharmaceutical company, where he was involved in the development of a novel antibody format for therapeutic or diagnostic use. Jan is a member of the German Chamber of Patent Attorneys and the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI). He is fluent in German and English.
