Federico Grazioli

As a Counsel in our financial services regulatory team based in Milan, I use my in-depth experience of authorities complex investigations and sanction proceedings to advise banks, investment firms, asset managers and listed companies on a wide range of regulatory matters.

My experience is in enforcement procedures opened by supervisory authorities, advising major national and international players in relation to cases concerning the provision of investment services, market abuse, fund management and anti-money laundering.

I am well-regarded for my skills in assisting clients involved in complex financial disputes with other financial intermediaries. Prevention of allegations by regulators and legal risk management is crucial to professional services and over the years I have co-ordinated a number of special compliance and assessment projects in order to help our clients achieve high standards when doing business in a highly regulated market.

Before joining Bird & Bird in 2006, I worked with two other law firms in Italy.

• Providing assistance before the Italian Constitutional Court in a proceeding leading to a historic decision concerning favor rei principle and an administrative sanctions system.
• Assisting an investment bank in the context of a complex cross-border market abuse investigation for alleged insider dealing and tipping-off price sensitive information.
• Defending a commercial bank belonging to an international group, as well as the members of its Board of Directors and Board of Statutory Auditors, in relation to breaches of law regarding the organisational model, internal procedures and damages suffered by retail clients.
• Managing a special compliance project for one of the largest Italian alternative investment fund managers.
• Conducting an assessment aimed at identifying compliance, reputational and legal risks relating to the provision of investment services by an important Italian bank.
