Ernst is head of our Tax Practice and co-heads our Real Estate Practice in the Netherlands. He is a partner based in The Hague.

He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, investment funds, structured (re)financing, cash pooling structures, internal reorganisations, fixed infrastructures and tax litigation with a particular focus on the Life Science, Energy & Utilities, Tech & Comms and Real Estate sectors.

Ernst advises on a wide range of international and Dutch domestic tax matters relating to commercial corporate and financial transactions including (re)structuring (distressed) debt positions, counselling (international) corporations in tax matters relating to (de)mergers, acquisitions and participations, joint-ventures and corporate (re)organisations. He regularly advises financial institutions on structured finance transactions and financial instruments, telecom companies on the tax aspects relating to building/owning and transferring fixed cable networks. He also frequently advises clients on tax matters relating to real estate transactions and start-ups on setting up a business in The Netherlands. His practice also covers structuring pan-European real estate investment funds for global property developers and property investors, structuring R&D activities and IP ownership. Furthermore Ernst represents companies in tax litigation.

He was admitted to the bar in 1997 and joined us in 2005.

Ernst holds a degree in Tax Law from the University of Amsterdam. He speaks English, Dutch and German. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers (NOB), the International Fiscal Association, the Dutch Bar Association (NOvA), Dutch Association of Tax Attorneys (NVAB) and the Dutch Association of Tax Science (Vereniging voor Belastingwetenschap).
