Due to her technical background and focus on the Life Sciences sector, Elizabeth has a strong understanding of the legal and commercial challenges faced by this industry.
Elizabeth is a senior associate in our Intellectual Property group based in London. She primarily advises on patent disputes in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.
Since joining Bird & Bird in 2007, Elizabeth has assisted in patent disputes before the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, UK Patent Office and European Patent Office and has also been involved in coordinating patent litigation in other jurisdictions. She has acted in a number of high profile UK and pan-European cases, including Actavis v Eli Lilly (pemetrexed), the first case in which the English court exercised jurisdiction over foreign designations of a European patent, and Actavis v Eli Lilly (tadalafil), which is currently pending before the Supreme Court.
In addition, Elizabeth has expertise in the creation and exploitation of intellectual property rights including via licensing, transfer and research and development agreements, particularly for the life science industry.
Before becoming a solicitor, Elizabeth obtained a PhD in molecular genetics from Cambridge University.
Elizabeth is a qualified Solicitor Advocate.
