Koon-yiu's varied experiences as a public administrator and technology consultant allow him to advise his clients on intellectual property matters from a valuable and unusual combination of commercial, technology and policy perspectives.
Koon-yiu is an Associate Solicitor in our Intellectual Property Group, based in Hong Kong.
He specialises in intellectual property and technology law. He advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters for a broad range of industries, including electronics, telecoms, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, advanced materials, and consumer products.
Koon-yiu regularly assists clients in high-value, complex disputes involving intellectual property rights in Hong Kong and China, including patents, trademarks, copyright, registered designs and licensing agreements. He is experienced in advocacy before the Hong Kong High Court for interlocutory matters.
Koon-yiu also advises clients on the commercialisation of intellectual property rights, including licensing negotiation, commercial IP agreements, and IP due diligence.
Before embarking on his legal career, Koon-yiu acquired a decade of professional experience in technology research, policy development and consulting.
Koon-yiu graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Microelectronic Engineering and Semiconductor Physics and from Imperial College London with a Bachelor of Science degree in Theoretical Physics. He received his academic legal training from the University of Hong Kong, where he obtained a Juris Doctor degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws.
Koon-yiu is admitted as a Solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong. He is a member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology and The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. He is also qualified as a National Cleaner Production Auditor in China.
Koon-yiu is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.
