Alex Jameson

As a senior associate in our Privacy and Data Protection Group in London, I work with a variety of organisations on their data and privacy matters, with a particular focus on AI.

My experience covers all aspects of information law: from the GDPR, to ePrivacy and Freedom of Information. I enjoy finding practical solutions to difficult questions: be that building a data protection compliance programme within a difficult culture, advising on grey spaces like on-device processing and biometrics, or just finding a calm way to manage stressful moments such as security incidents.

I work with all kinds of organisations, but have a particular interest in matters involving AI and new technologies. I advise both AI users and AI developers and have an understanding of both the technical complexities and the developing regulatory landscape which allows me to navigate clients through difficult territory.

Separately, I have particular experience working on HR data and employment-adjacent privacy matters; such as recruitment, investigations, and (most recently) novel questions posed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

I'll happily digress (on my own time) into discussions about the geekier aspects of privacy if prompted - from the walled garden of big tech to the walled gardens of Victorian society.

Before joining our firm, I spent over six years at another private practice firm, where I advised companies, public sector organisations, and international NGOs on data and privacy.

I am listed as an 'Associate to Watch' in Chambers Legal Guide and a 'Key Lawyer' in Legal 500.

• Helping a data science institute to build their internal data protection compliance programme.
• Helping a number of technology and entertainment companies on their compliance with the Age Appropriate Design Code, including developing child-friendly approaches to privacy.
• Helping clients navigate their responses to the GDPR, then Brexit, and then the Schrems II decision in recent years - including designing (and re-designing) contractual data transfer frameworks.
• Helping world-leading technology companies assess innovative new products before launch.
• Providing training to clients on matters including handling data security breaches and individual rights requests.
