I am a Counsel in Bird & Bird's Banking & Finance team based in Madrid.

During the past ten years I have worked in the field of Financial Services, with a special on European and Spanish legal and regulatory issues related to payments.

Prior to joining Bird & Bird, I worked for Visa in Brussels and London where I led the regulatory work related to payments legislation, including in particular PSD2. In addition, I have broad experience dealing with regulatory oversight by the European Central Bank/Eurosystem and the Bank of England. I was also responsible to provide Regulatory advice in Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Greece, Israel and Turkey.

Prior to Visa, I was responsible for payment systems at the European Association of Cooperative Banks (EACB), and before that he was the company secretary and Head of Compliance/Regulatory Affairs at the leading Spanish Card Payments Scheme, Servired, in Madrid.

I speak fluent Spanish, English and French.

  • My career started as a competition lawyer in a boutique firm. After my training, I worked in-house for over 10 years in Madrid, Brussels and London, dedicated to the payments and FinTech legal and regulatory areas.
  • I am currently providing advice to a number of clients, including global banking groups, on regulatory affairs and compliance in the Payments and FinTech sectors.
Education
  • I hold a degree in law from the Universidad de Oviedo and a LLM from the Catholic University of Leuven.

  • I am a member of the Spanish Bar (Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Madrid) since 2008.
