The NHS Commercial Alliance, which represents 27 National Health Service (NHS) trusts across the UK, has appointed Bird & Bird to its new panel for legal services.
Members of the alliance will now be able to engage Bird & Bird to advise on a wide range of projects quickly and easily.
Our healthcare strategy is focussed on how the sector is evolving to address the unique challenges of the 21st century, such as ageing populations, the management of long-term chronic illnesses and increasing funding gaps. These challenges are leading to the adoption of innovative technologies, business models and medical techniques.
We support healthcare providers and their suppliers to respond to, and ultimately benefit from, these challenges and developments, taking advantage of our market-leading strengths in life sciences, IT, communications, data protection and IP.
We call this strategy "Smarter healthcare for the 21st century".
Ian Edwards, who co-heads our International Healthcare Group said:
"Bird & Bird is already involved in a wide range of exciting and innovative projects in the healthcare sector, including smart hospitals, 3D organ imaging, e-health initiatives and ground-breaking M&A and joint venture transactions. Our appointment to the NHS Commercial Alliance panel enables us to deliver our skills to a much wider audience of potential clients in the UK."
Simon Shooter, who advises on healthcare projects ranging from M&A through to joint ventures in the Middle East adds:
"The budgets, remits and challenges for NHS trusts greatly exceed those of many private sector businesses and they deliver some of the most innovative projects across the globe. Our inclusion on this panel will allow many such NHS trusts to instruct a wide range of our experts more easily."
Bird & Bird was appointed to the panel in February 2015 for an initial period of 3 years.
