Bird & Bird is pleased to announce that it has appointed Sami Tuominen as a partner and the head of its Finnish Tax Group, based in Helsinki. He will be responsible for building Bird & Bird's Finnish tax capability which is part of Bird & Bird’s international tax team consisting of approximately 40 tax lawyers.
Sami joins from a first tier tax practice of a local law firm Borenius where he was a Specialist Partner.
He advises on domestic and international tax matters in corporate and personal income taxation. Sami has experience of acting as a daily administrative tax advisor and a tax coordinator for domestic and international companies operating in Finland. His clients include listed and non-listed Finnish and multinational businesses and their management; family-owned companies; private banks and their clients (both corporate and retail); investment banks and private equity investors as well as their target companies.
Sami is one of the authors of Sopimusriskit: a comprehensive book on contracts and risk management (2014) and of Taxation of Change of Generation (2010 and 2014). He has also written articles in several Finnish and global professional publications. In addition, Sami is a regular lecturer and panellist at tax related seminars and events.
Admitted to the Finnish bar in 2008, Sami holds a Master of Laws from the University of Helsinki and participated in “Bolagsrätt och Internationell Skatterätt” - studies in Swedish at Uppsala Universitet, Sweden.
He is a member of the International Fiscal Association Finland and of Suomen Veroasiantuntijatry (Finnish Tax Experts).
