The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to launch a Data Protection Day in 2006 to be celebrated each year on 28 January, which aims to raise awareness of data protection issues. To mark the 2015 Data Protection Day, our data protection teams in the Nordic region have been involved in various activities.
In Helsinki we hosted a seminar focused on the typical legal issues facing many organisations today. Partner Jesper Nevalainen opened the event, followed by a presentation from Senior Counsel Kaisa Keski-Vähälä and Associate Iiro Loimaala. The presentation was followed by a lively discussion among the guests. Our seminar was a huge success with 75 participants from organisations and companies across a range of different sectors.
The Data Protection Day was also celebrated in our Copenhagen office, where Partner Nis Peter Dall and Senior Associate Pernille Østergaard participated in the official European Data Protection Day event, held at the national parliament of Denmark Christiansborg (Folketinget). Nis Peter Dall was also part of the jury which will award the Data Protection Prize to an individual, company or authority that has done something extraordinary to promote data protection during the year.
