Bird & Bird is delighted to announce that it has appointed Zhaofeng Zhou as a partner in its Competition Group, based in Beijing.
A specialist antitrust lawyer, Zhaofeng advises on areas such as merger control, antitrust compliance and training, antitrust review of commercial contracts, monopoly agreements, abuse of dominance, abuse of Intellectual Property rights and antitrust legislation. Zhaofeng joins from Taylor Wessing, where he was a Counsel.
He is one of the few Chinese antitrust lawyers in China with strong academic and practical experience in the China market. He was also elected as Vice Chair of Legal & Competition Working Group of European Chamber in 2014.
Zhaofeng graduated with an LLB in Economic Law from Shenyang University of Technology; he also holds an LLM in International Law from the University of Bristol and PhD in Competition Law from University of Glasgow. He was admitted to the PRC Bar in 2009.
Justin Walkey, Chairman of Bird & Bird’s Asia-Pacific region, said: "This is an exciting appointment for Bird & Bird in China. Competition and Antitrust are relatively new developments in the Chinese market and these services are increasingly being requested by clients. Zhaofeng's appointment will enable us to broaden our client offering as we anticipate that overseas and local organisations will increasingly seek advice in these areas."
Zhaofeng added "I am thrilled to be joining Bird & Bird. What attracted me to the firm is its unparalleled reputation in the Intellectual Property sector, coupled with its truly international reach. Given the international nature of antitrust law, I believe that I have found a suitable place to further develop my antitrust practice."
