Bird & Bird boosts Middle East presence with appointments of Kelly Tymburski and Saarah Badr

Bird & Bird is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelly Tymburski as a partner in its Middle East practice. Kelly joined the firm on 6 April 2014 and will operate from Bird & Bird’s UAE offices. Kelly is a dual qualified lawyer (Ontario, Canada and England & Wales) with significant experience in the Middle East TMT legal market, having worked in private practice in the region since 2007. During this time she has done an extensive amount of work for both private and public sector clients, with an emphasis on advising clients in the communications sector and with strengths in both TMT commercial and regulatory matters. A key aspect of Kelly’s role will be spearheading the firm’s push into the Middle East and African telecommunications sector.

Bird & Bird is also pleased to announce the hire of Saarah Badr, who has joined its Middle East practice as a Senior Associate. Saarah also has extensive regional experience, having previously worked as Legal Counsel to the Abu Dhabi Media Zone Authority (twofour54) from 2009 to 2013. Saarah boasts significant expertise advising on regional IP, media and entertainment matters.

Mark Pinder, Bird & Bird's Managing Partner in the Middle East said: "We are very excited to welcome both Kelly and Saarah to our fast growing UAE based team. We have been looking to develop our telecommunications capabilities in the Middle East and to capitalise on those opportunities in the region which are closely aligned to this area of expertise, for which we are traditionally known. I believe Kelly's extensive experience, supported by Saarah, will be key in driving the growth of our TMT practice to the next level in and across the Middle East and Africa.

Bird & Bird’s sector capabilities in the Middle East now extend to Aerospace, Defence & Security, Aviation, Communications, Energy & Utilities, Franchising and Hospitality, HealthcareInformation TechnologyMedia and Sport, and operating out of Abu Dhabi and Dubai."

Kelly commented on her move to Bird & Bird: "What sets Bird & Bird apart is not only their remarkable reputation for TMT sector work, but also their clear commitment to expanding and supporting their international reach. I am absolutely delighted to be joining Bird & Bird and look forward to helping expand their communications footprint in the region.”
