Bird & Bird’s Madrid office has been awarded “Best Overseas Office of the Year 2010” at The Lawyer European Awards, held in Berlin. Now in its second year, The Lawyer European Awards brings together more than 25 countries to recognise law firms’ achievements based on the Continent.
Managing Partner of Madrid, Javier Fernandez-Samaniego, received the award in Berlin and commented: “Amongst a strong list of contenders, we receive this award with pride as it recognises what I believe really differentiates the Madrid office and the culture at Bird & Bird from other firms. Our office functions as a collaborative team, from the lawyers to the support staff. What resonates across the office is a real passion for the work we do and a dedication to client service. Success on recent litigations to harmonise Data Protection regulations in Europe, which will have a significant impact in the community, is a strong example of our teams’ work.
An achievement like this is really shared across all of those who have, and who continue to contribute to our office’s growth and success and it is the best gift we could receive in our 5th anniversary of operating in Spain.”
The awards are judged by a panel of well travelled managing partners at private practice firms including Chris Carroll, Travers Smith, James Furber, Farrer & Co, Simon Johnston, Nabarro, and Charles Martin, MacFarlanes and in-house counsel at multinational companies, including Claude Bahoshy, InBev, Jane Douglas, DP World, David Isenegger, Shell UK Exploration and Production, Wolf Von Kumberg, Northrop Grumman, Alessia Odone, Indesit Company UK, and Thomas Werlan, Novartis.
