Bird & Bird Hong Kong celebrates its association with Chinese law firm Xiang Kun

Bird & Bird Hong Kong and Chinese law firm Xiang Kun Law Firm recently celebrated their association in Beijing.  Through this formal association, approved by the Beijing Justice Bureau, Bird & Bird can offer clients the full range of contentious services in China by undertaking advocacy in the Chinese Courts through Xiang Kun.

Xiang Kun Law Firm is a Chinese law firm providing all kinds of contentious legal services, advising in intellectual property, corporate, commercial and other civil disputes in China.  Xiang Kun’s lawyers have exceptional experience in assisting in IP litigation, with the firm representing numerous multinationals, in the Chinese Courts, both as Plaintiff and Defendant.   Bird & Bird’s Intellectual Property Group has been active in litigation in China for the past decade, having represented clients in some of the most high profile and ground breaking cases.

Matthew Laight, managing partner of Bird & Bird in China, said: “This has been a major step forward for Bird & Bird’s contentious IP practice in China and gives us a unique advantage over other firms.”

“The association has been really good news for our clients as we can now offer a full range of contentious and non-contentious services in China, via Bird & Bird’s existing offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai together with Xiang Kun. The fact that Xiang Kun is led by James Luo is a major bonus because he is a highly accomplished lawyer, and having worked for Bird & Bird is a good friend of the firm.”

James Luo comments:  “I am delighted that Xiang Kun is a best friend law firm of Bird & Bird, acting as Chinese counsel on contentious matters for the firm’s clients.  Clients benefit from the strong relationships I have built with many Bird & Bird lawyers.”   As managing partner of Xiang Kun, James Luo is growing the firm by appointing specialist IP and commercial litigators.

The association of Bird & Bird Hong Kong with Xiang Kun Law Firm and the opening of its office in Shanghai, in 2008, has significantly developed Bird & Bird’s practice in China. In addition, the global association with Singapore-based ATMD Bird & Bird enables the firm to provide its Asian and international clients with a broad range of legal services and expertise throughout Asia.
