International law firm Bird & Bird announces today the appointment of new partner Tim Schwarz, who joins the firm from Linklaters where he was Global Head of TMT/IP.
Tim Schwarz is recognised as a leading telecoms lawyer both in the UK and wider internationally, particularly in the emerging markets. At Bird & Bird, Tim Schwarz’s primary focus will be to strengthen the firm's telecoms practice in the Middle East and Africa.
The firm's market-leading Communications Group acts for many of the world's best-known telecoms, broadcasting and internet companies, as well as major financial institutions and technology businesses. Tim Schwarz joins an international communications team comprising more than 120 lawyers across Europe and Asia, many of whom are acknowledged as leading experts in their respective jurisdictions.
Frédérique Dupuis-Toubol, joint head of Bird & Bird's Communications Group said: "Tim is a fantastic appointment for the firm as he adds real strength to what is already a market leading position in telecoms. He adds real strength to our international capacity and we have a lot of potential infrastructure and corporate projects in emerging markets to explore together."
David Kerr, Bird & Bird's CEO and joint head of the firm's Communications Group, said: "Tim’s experience in the emerging markets will help us strengthen the firm in the Middle East and Africa, as well as boosting our reputation in Central Europe, where we are already known following the opening of four offices there last year. We welcome him to the Bird & Bird partnership."
Tim Schwarz added: "I am delighted to be joining Bird & Bird. I have been a big admirer of the firm for many years and look forward to extending its excellent reputation into exciting new markets."
In conjunction with his role at Bird & Bird, Tim Schwarz will spend some of his time as part-time General Counsel of the Sinocare group, a pre-IPO technology-focused Chinese healthcare company.
