International law firm Bird & Bird and Alban Tay Mahtani & de Silva LLP (ATMD), one of Singapore’s leading law firms, have entered into a global association agreement with effect from 1 January 2009. The Singapore office will be known as ATMD Bird & Bird LLP.
The global association, which was announced in November 2008, is built on strong practice and sector synergies between the two firms, giving Bird & Bird a presence in Singapore, a key regional hub in South East Asia. The firm already has offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai. The global association gives ATMD’s existing clients access to Bird & Bird’s 20 office international reach.
ATMD is currently associated with Tay & Partners in Malaysia and this relationship continues, though Tay & Partners will continue to operate as an independent firm.
Alban Kang, Managing Partner of ATMD Bird & Bird LLP in Singapore, said: “We are delighted that the global association has gone live and that our clients can now benefit from the increased coverage and wider array of legal skills provided by Bird & Bird across Europe and Asia.”
Commenting on the global association, David Kerr, Bird & Bird’s CEO, said: “I am confident that ATMD Bird & Bird LLP will be a success. We have known each other for many years and both our cultures and businesses are a good mutual fit, so the association is a very good one for both firms.”
