International law firm Bird & Bird has been advising new client, the ObN-NetH Group B.V., a subsidiary of the Municipality of Eindhoven, on their acquisition of Obragas and Netbeheer Haarlemmermeer, two Dutch gas network operators for a deal value of approximately €400million.
Obragas Net N.V. is the fifth largest gas distribution network in the Netherlands with 195,000 customers while Netbeheer Haarlemmermeer is a gas distribution network with approximately 55,000 customers located in the fast growing region around Schipol Airport to the south of Amsterdam. The two networks were sold by subsidiaries of RWE AG, an international energy company.
The Bird & Bird team was led by new corporate/M&A partner Harm van Berkum who joined the firm earlier this year in February. Harm was assisted by associate Bas van Bentum. Tax partner Pieter Camps and competition and regulatory partner Pauline Kuipers were also involved.
Commenting, Harm van Berkum said:
"This was a challenging deal because of the changing regulatory landscape in Holland. The deal is also a stepping stone for our emerging energy practice - in recent months Bird & Bird has been very active in a number of energy related deals".
