International law firm Bird & Bird has been advising new client, Evolution Group plc on two recent acquisitions. On 3 June 2006, Evolution Group plc completed the acquisition of London based financial services group Williams de Broe plc from ING Belgium S.A. for a headline cash consideration (subject to adjustment) of £15 million. On 14 June 2006, Evolution Group plc’s specialist chinese securities subsidiary, Evolution Securities China Limited, completed the acquisition of Hong Kong based Watterson Securities Limited for an undisclosed sum.
London listed investment bank, Evolution Group plc, was introduced to the firm by partner Simon Allport, who joined Bird & Bird’s corporate group earlier this year.
The team working on the Williams de Broe deal was led by Simon Allport with the other core members of the team comprising corporate assistant Sage Raja, senior tax assistant Mathew Olivier and employment partner Ian Hunter. The Watterson deal was led by Julian Courtney-Stubbs in Hong Kong and Simon Allport in London, with other members of the team comprising Helen Gavin-Brown and Louise Ng in Hong Kong.
Graeme Dell, finance director of Evolution Group plc said:
“This is the first time we have used Bird & Bird and we are delighted by the level of service they have provided to us throughout an intensive period of activity”.
Simon Allport added:
“These were important strategic acquisitions for the Evolution Group and we are very pleased to have been able to assist in their implementation. Our role in advising on the Williams de Broe deal emphasises the growing strength of Bird & Bird’s corporate group and the Watterson deal demonstrates the increasingly international reach of the firm.
