Bird & Bird Advises Michelin on €1 Billion Outsourcing

International law firm Bird & Bird has been advising Michelin on a €1 billion global outsourcing agreement with IBM. Under the terms of the agreement, which has been signed for 8 years, Michelin has transferred the management of all its information technology across Europe and North America to IBM. The terms of the outsourcing also involve approximately 600 employees who will join IBM.

Bird & Bird advised on all aspects of the outsourcing which involved lawyers across the firm’s European offices. The deal was led from Bird & Bird’s Paris office. IT partner Stéphane Lemarchand, assisted by senior associate Stéphane Leriche, advised Michelin’s legal department, led by Keith Wixlor, senior international counsel. Employment partner Benjamine Fiedler advised on French related employment issues. Lawyers from the firm’s offices in the UK, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden were also involved during the roll-out stages of the transaction.

Bird & Bird’s Paris office was recently awarded “IT Law Firm of the Year 2003” by Decideurs Strategie Finance Droit – France’s leading legal business publication.
