Several partners at international law firm Bird & Bird have won awards and recognition at the first ever 2004 WORLD leaders: The European IP Awards run by legal publishers, Informa Law. Four partners across the firm’s European offices were identified as World Leaders on the basis of their work this past year. Bird & Bird was also the only law firm to have won more than one out of the eight award categories confirming the firm’s European achievements.
The partners won awards in two separate categories: “Best contribution to IP enforcement” for which Wolfgang von Meibom, partner and joint head of the firm’s IP group, came first for his impressive work for Honeywell in Germany, Italy and France. “Best contribution to Patent litigation” was jointly won by partners Bruno Vandermeulen and Armand Killan for their groundbreaking work relating to the Senseo coffee wars in Belgium and The Netherlands. Morag Macdonald, partner and joint head of the firm’s IP group, received a special commendation for her wide ranging trade mark work.
The awards themselves are in recognition of the level of excellence that the winners have achieved over the last 12 months and were independently assessed and chosen by a panel of industry experts. Commenting on the awards, Jacqueline Nunan, Managing Editor of Informa Law’s Intellectual Property publications, said:
“The awards recognise excellence, leadership and the European contribution to global IP. They have been created to celebrate the individual contributions of those professionals who are shaping the future of intellectual property and business worldwide”.
David Kerr, Bird & Bird’s CEO added:
“We were absolutely delighted to have received these awards. Our international IP team has achieved some very important and groundbreaking results for their clients this past year. In this respect, the awards are a reflection of their strength in depth and also an important demonstration of what our lawyers can do for their clients”.
