Senior BAE lawyer recruited to lead firm’s UK operation
International law firm Bird & Bird has recruited Paul Briggs from BAE Systems to jointly head the firm’s International Aviation & Aerospace team. Based in the UK, Paul will be in charge of leading the UK team and will also help lead the overall direction of the international group. His appointment comes at a time when the firm’s activity in the Aviation & Aerospace sector is gathering pace.
With a varied career covering almost every aspect of the Aviation sector, Paul brings a wealth of experience to Bird & Bird. Starting his career in aircraft liabilities litigation in 1987, Paul specialised in aircraft leasing and financing on qualification - spending time on secondment with Guiness Peat Aviation in Ireland before moving to Hong Kong. Joining BAE in 1995, Paul led the aircraft leasing and financing legal team and spent time in the Middle East and with Airbus in Toulouse. Over the last four years Paul has worked on very large high profile transactions with the MoD for satellite financing, flight training and air to air re-fuelling and was the BAE Systems Legal Director - Finance and Treasury since 2002.
Paul will be jointly managing Bird & Bird’s International Aviation & Aerospace sector group along with partner Catherine Erkelens, based in Brussels. Commenting on Paul’s appointment, David Kerr said:
