In November we launched a quarterly support group for those responsible for data protection compliance within their organisations. Since then, both the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") and the N&IS Directive (the "Cyber Directive") have been finalised. The most significant shake up of data protection and cyber security laws in 20 years is imminent (and all this in addition to the latest episode in the on-going Safe Harbor invalidation drama). So what actions should those tasked with an organisation's data protection and cyber security risk compliance be prioritising now?
Our February meeting will help them decide and provide an informal setting for those involved in this important area to share ideas and experiences and to discuss the challenges they face. Drinks and an opportunity to network with other guests will follow the meeting. In particular, those new to data and cyber security compliance will be catered for, although the group is suitable for those with all levels of experience and whether from a legal, regulatory, HR or security background.
This month we are pleased to welcome speakers from Western Union and Admiral Group plc who will respectively discuss approaches to developing and implementing data governance initiatives, and developing a cyber incident reaction plan. Speakers from Bird & Bird will also lead the first in a series of discussions on what the text of the final GDPR and Cyber Directive actually mean for business.
