Following the rejection of the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement by the UK Parliament on 15 January 2019, it is more likely that the UK will leave the EU on 29 March 2019 without a deal.
After Brexit, European Union Trade Mark and Community Design registrations will cease to cover the UK. There are therefore steps you should take to ensure that you have trade mark and design protection in the UK.
In the event of a no-deal, the UK Government has agreed to grant "comparable" UK national trade marks and designs for every EUTM or Community Design registration existing at Brexit. These "comparable" UK national trade marks and designs will have the same priority and registration dates as the EUTM or Community Design. This grant will occur automatically.
