Personal data online workshop

25 February 2010

Bird & Bird's Privacy & Data Protection Group is holding an afternoon workshop to discuss the consultation on a new code of practice for businesses who deal with personal data online launched by the Information Commissioner.
It is anticipated that the resulting code of practice will be a "practical and common sense approach to protecting individuals' privacy online". This afternoon workshop, which will be hosted by Ruth Boardman, will provide a forum for discussing your thoughts on the draft code and give you the opportunity to influence the content of the new code, whether through your own response or by contributing to the response that we will prepare.
We are inviting a wide range of industry experts to the workshop and are very pleased to welcome Iain Bourne, Head of Data Protection Projects at the ICO, to this event.
Key themes arising from the consultation that we will cover include:
  • Cookies and default computer settings
  • Online marketing (particular targeted advertising) and third party content
  • Cloud computing
  • Using technology to protect or improve data subject rights
  • Data subject responsibility
