Join us for our seminar explaining the curious world of European labor law in the context of acquisitions to be held in Washington D.C.
In the first three months of 2015 acquisitions in Europe by U.S. companies were up by 30 percent and in fact doubled over a 12 month period, reaching an eight year high.
These statistics highlight how critical it is for U.S. in-house practitioners to understand the challenges and the pitfalls associated with European employment law. Such understanding is fundamental to the success of these transactions. Key issues include: the identification of appropriate targets, due diligence and strategic assessment of restructuring, and its impact on costs.
The aim of Bird & Bird's workshop is to provide an in-depth and practical look at the challenging world of European labor law in the context of acquisitions and restructuring, in particular focusing on:
- An overview of the European Legal Landscape
- Key differences between US/European Employment law
- Union rights and works councils
- Mandatory employee transfer rules and Employment Contracts
- Pre- and Post-Acquisition Considerations (including due diligence)
- Developing an effective strategy in choosing acquisition targets.
The Chair at this meeting will be former Northrop Grumman's European Assistant General Counsel, Wolf von Kumberg
, who has over 25 years of practical experience dealing with European transactions and restructuring projects. He will be joined by employment lawyers from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and the UK, who will provide the full range of cross-jurisdictional and strategic employment law expertise that any U.S. corporation contemplating or already doing business in Europe will need to know.
This is a seminar that no in-house lawyer or HR professional with current or contemplated business in Europe can afford to miss.
