Competition law seminar

10 May 2012

Bird & Bird is pleased to invite you to its Competition law seminar in Geneva Thursday 10 May 2012 from 15.30

Competition law imposes increasingly challenging demands on companies and their legal departments. Fines for competition law violations have spiralled to unprecedented heights in recent years, with more and more countries introducing criminal sanctions for serious competition law violations. Companies therefore need to ensure that their employees are properly trained and supervised to avoid violations of the competition rules. Our presenters will share their practical experience on how to implement an effective competition law compliance programme and how to prepare for, and manage, unannounced inspections by competition authorities - "dawn raids".They will also update participants on a number of interesting recent developments in these areas.

A subject that is attracting increasing scrutiny by competition authorities is the exchange of information between competitors. While most employees know that they must not make agreements on prices, or share customers or territories with competitors, very few have a clear understanding of what information they can and cannot share with competitors. The seminar will outline and explain the do's and don'ts and provide practical guidance on how companies can avoid risks in this regard.

Another important challenge for companies with activities in various countries is the need to obtain merger control approvals for transactions in a large number of countries, each of which has different criteria triggering a filing obligation, different and sometimes excessive information requirements for notifications, and varying timetables. Our presenters, who have significant experience in advising companies in multi-jurisdictional merger control proceedings, will share practical insights and provide guidance on how to effectively navigate this complex process.

We hope you will be able to join us.
