A day in the life of Joel Di Qual

I do some work on an article that I am helping to write for one of Bird & Bird's online publications. I make sure to complete my timesheets before I head home for the day.

08:30:

I arrive at work. I check through any unread emails, and make note of the things I have to get done today. I’ll update my timesheets if I didn’t get to them the night before, and then get started on some work.

09:15

It is coffee time. We have a coffee machine on Level 21 and 22 but I prefer to make my own coffee in the Melba ‘common area’ and have been practising my coffee art.

09:30

I get back to my desk and continue with my tasks for the day. The most pressing task I have to do this morning is to draft an agreement for a client. This will take me another couple of hours at least to finish.

12:30

I decide to stretch my legs and go for a quick walk around the city. I get back to the office and heat up the lunch that I brought from home. I eat in the Melba, where people from different teams around the firm usually eat lunch together. It’s a good time to catch up with people you haven’t seen in a while (or the people you see every day!).

13:30

I get back to my desk and see that an urgent email request has come through from a partner for some research work. I contact the associate that asked me to draft the agreement to see if I can spare some time to do the research. The associate explains that they don't need the draft agreement until tomorrow afternoon, so I get started on the research right away. I spend couple of hours researching and draft a brief memo to the partner explaining the conclusions I reached, and why I reached them.

15:30

I take a quick break to make myself a cup of tea with Lukas, who came through the clerkship last year – I am his buddy during the IP rotation.

16:30

Once I finish off the draft agreement, I read over it a couple of times and then send it to the associate for review.
