Eleanor Root

Eleanor graduated from Durham University in 1998 with a BSc in Cell Biology and following a year working in Japan went on to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course.

Having completed her training contract with Bird & Bird, she qualified in September 2004 into the intellectual property department where her work has primarily focused on High Court Actions in relation to patents, design rights and passing off. These include the first case to deal with the community unregistered design right in the UK for an international toy manufacturer, a landmark passing-off action for a major construction company and a patent action concerning a drug of great commercial importance for the largest global research-based pharmaceutical.

Eleanor has a strong interest in life sciences and contentious matters but she also has experience with non-contentious patent and trade mark work.

She has also contributed to certain publications (IP and general legal), as well as given presentations externally for the CIPA informals and Central Law Training Ltd.
