International law firm Bird & Bird has appointed nine new partners. The appointments, which have been made across Bird & Bird’s international sector and practice groups, will bring the total number of Bird & Bird partners to 119. Andreas Borjesson (IT and Media), Julian Courtney-Stubbs (Corporate), Alexander Duisberg (IT), Giovanni Galimberti (IP), Boris Kreye (IP), Simon Phillips (IT and Communications), Jim Runsten (IT and Communications), Caterina Rucci (Employment) and Marcus Vass (Communications) were made partners with effect from 1 May 2005.

Andreas Borjesson joined Bird & Bird in 1999 and is based in the firm's Stockholm office. Andreas is a member of the firm’s IT and Media Sector Groups and specialises in providing legal services in the areas of corporate, commercial and intellectual property law mainly to clients active within the IT, Communications and Media sectors.
Julian Courtney-Stubbs joined Bird & Bird in 1997. He is Head of the Asia Corporate Group at Bird & Bird based in the firm’s offices in Hong Kong and Beijing. Julian has longstanding experience advising clients in the technology, e-commerce, life sciences and communications sectors. He focuses particularly on private equity, M&A transactions and joint ventures, invariably with a cross-border flavour, for private and public companies as well as venture capital and other external investors.
Dr. Alexander Duisberg joined Bird & Bird in October 2003 and helped launch the firms’ Munich office. He heads the German IT commercial practice and advises on the full range of IT law, both for suppliers and customers, including major projects, complex technology transfer agreements, strategic alliances, data protection, as well as on outsourcing arrangements of all kind, both nationally and internationally.
Giovanni Galimberti joined Bird & Bird in April 2003 and helped to establish the firm’s Milan office. He is an 8 year PQE IP lawyer based in Milan, with a strong focus on Italian patent and trademark law. Giovanni has a substantial background in contentious intellectual property work and, in particular, is focused on national and international patent and trademark litigation.
Boris Kreye joined Bird & Bird in 2004 and is based in the firm's Munich office. He is an experienced national and international patent litigator with particular expertise in the Life Sciences and Communications sectors as well as the automotive field. As well as patent law, Boris advises clients in all other IP matters such as trade mark and unfair competition law.
Simon Phillips joined Bird & Bird in 1998 from his native Australia. He has extensive experience in advising supplier and customer clients in the IT, telecommunications, outsourcing and e-commerce sectors and is the co-author, with fellow partner Nick Perry, of the e-commerce section of the Encyclopedia of Information Technology Law. His appointment further strengthens the outstanding commercial team in Bird & Bird's London office.
Caterina Rucci joined Bird & Bird in October 2003. She founded the employment law department at Bird & Bird’s Milan office, after having spent more than 14 years in the employment law practices of two leading Milanese law firms. Caterina handles all aspects of employment law, both contentious and non-contentious, covering Italian and international issues.
Jim Runsten joined Bird & Bird in February 1999 and is based in the firm’s Stockholm office. He specialises in providing legal services in the areas of commercial and corporate law both on a national and international level to clients active within the IT and Communications Sectors. Jim is a member of the firm's International IT Sector Group and heads the Outsourcing and Data Protection Practice Groups in Stockholm.
Marcus Vass has been working in Asia since 1999 and is based in the firm’s Hong Kong and Beijing offices. He is a commercial lawyer and has completed cutting edge communications and technology projects in greater China and elsewhere in Asia. Marcus has also led high profile communications projects in the Middle East.
