Tom has a scientific background with a first class MSci degree in chemistry from Durham University. Tom qualified in 2005 into the Intellectual Property department of a Magic Circle firm, before moving to Bird & Bird in 2006.
Tom has experience of advising in respect of complex, high-value commercial contracts relating to the exploitation of intellectual property rights, such as agreements relating to licensing of intellectual property, R&D agreements and franchise agreements. Considerable experience of advising on intellectual property matters in the context of corporate and finance transactions, including international acquisitions and disposals, demergers, public offerings, joint ventures and corporate reorganisations across a broad range of sectors.
Since joining Bird & Bird Tom has acted in a number of contentious patent actions, predominantly in the telecommunications sector. Tom has also recently completed a nine month secondment at T-Mobile (UK) Limited where he advised in relation to marketing and advertising law, data protection issues, as well as general commercial and intellectual property matters.
