Klaus-Jürgen is head of Bird & Bird’s Trade Mark Group in Germany. In addition to trade mark law, he also practices EU & Competition and intellectual property law.
Klaus-Jürgen specialises in the trade mark strategies and enforcement. He is one of the most well known trade mark litigators in Germany with almost 30 years experience and is well regarded and has garnered particular respect for his work for Deutsche Telekom AG. Klaus-Jürgen's expertise is recognised by some of the leading independent legal directories: In the 9th Edition of “Global Counsel 3000” he was named as one of only two “leading individuals” in trade mark law in Germany; in the 2004/2005 edition of Global Counsel Handbook he was named as a “widely recognised IP expert” and a “highly recommended attorney” and in the 2003/2004 edition of the JUVE Handbook as a “good” and a “very respected” lawyer in the fields of trade mark and design protection.
In addition, he is a leading adviser in EU law, unfair competition and cartel law in Germany. Klaus-Jürgen has advised numerous companies before courts and national and EU-anti-trust authorities concerning merger and anti-trust cases as well as cases on the abuse of dominant market positions.
For years Klaus-Jürgen has been the chair of the largest regional Section of Deutsche Vereinigung für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht (GRUR) and a member of the Global Board of the GRUR. Klaus-Jürgen was an officer of Committee L of International Bar Association (Intellectual Property, Copyright & Entertainment) for eight years, co-chairing it from 1998 to 2002.
In addition to his legal work, Klaus-Jürgen has published numerous articles on copyright, design protection and intellectual property law.
